Our Puppy Courses are designed to help you learn the skills and techniques required to set you off on the right paw! In addition to building your dog's social skills with other dogs in a safe, positive environment. Each course covers the fundamentals that are essential in developing respect and trust in your puppy:
BODY LANGUAGE
Understanding body language helps you to recognise how a dog is feeling in new or challenging situations and when interacting with dogs and people.
LEADER FOLLOWER
Leader follower work is one of the most important activities that we do with dogs as it helps to build Pack drive (following) instinct between owner and dog. It is the foundation of recall, loose lead walking and place work.
LEAD WALKING
Walking your dog on lead is essential in building respect and trust in your dog. You will learn how to give your dog leadership and direction on lead to achieve 'Pack drive' in your dog.
CRATE TRAINING
Crates are a great way of creating a relaxed, safe area where your dog can rest and learn to be apart from you. In class we go through the different types of crates and how to ensure your dog views a crate as a positive place to be.
BASIC COMMANDS
We show you how to teach the basic commands; sit, down, stay, and recall and how to motivate your dog to want to comply.
FOOD & NUTRITION
A healthy balanced species specific diet is of paramount importance in achieving balance mentally, physically and emotionally in your dog. You will learn how diet affects a dogs behaviour .
HEALTH CHECKS & TOUCH WORK
It is important that your dog is comfortable being touched and handled. We look at ways to keep dogs calm and relaxed while we check their teeth, ears, feet and overall health.
SAFE PLAY - TOYS
We look at different toys available and the best types of play activities suited to your dogs interests and breed to ensure that your dog is mentally fulfilled without becoming over excited! We also look at ways of avoiding your dog becoming too possessive or obsessive with toys, and discuss how to control prey drive in certain breeds.
SAFE PLAY - DOGS
We look at social play and what is 'acceptable play' between dogs. You will learn how to monitor and correct the level of play, to prevent potential confrontation and ensure your dog learns how to be respectful and trust other dogs during play activities.
HOW TO DEAL WITH NEW SITUATIONS
We practice exposing your dog to new environments, sounds, objects and activities to ensure they become socialised in a variety of situations.
